EUROPE'S LAST SPOTTED EAGLES

The greater spotted eagle is an endangered species worldwide which few people have been able to observe in its natural environment.

The estimated number of greater spotted eagles in Europe is only about 900 pairs, and it mainly nests in Eastern Europe. Threats to the remaining greater spotted eagles include the disappearance of their natural habitat, hybridising with lesser spotted eagles as well as more efficient agriculture and forestry on the eastern fringes of their nesting areas in Eastern Europe.

Unique shots of this fabulous bird.

In this documentary the life of the greater spotted eagles is observed near the eastern border of Finland as well as in their nesting areas in Estonia and in their wintering grounds in the Arabian Peninsula.

The programme includes unique shots of this fabulous but difficult-to-film bird, which is seldom seen in nature documentaries. There are also shots of the fulvescens variety of the greater spotted eagle. Their estimated number stands at about 200 birds for the entire planet.
